 UGM: Urban Growth Monitoring

Provides:

A set of indicators useful to support decision-making processes of spatial planning.

  • LPI: indicator of the compactness of an urban area or vice versa of its fragmentation
  • RPMS: an indicator of fragmentation
  • ED: an effective measure of shape and complexity
  • ID: ratio between the discontinuous urbanized surface and the total urbanized area
  • Land consumption (%, ha): Annual percentage increase in land consumption, Loss of agricultural, natural and semi-natural areas

The figure shows an example of graphic and numerical comparison between the 5 pilot cities

Makes use of: land consumption data produced by ISPRA.

 


Smart features:

  • Migrating to satellite processes, enhances time availability, frequency of updates and ensures sustainability (secured by Copernicus) as well as scalability.
  • User friendly GIS frontend for stakeholders provided via web-portal
